Ciutadella, a major urban centre, was the former capital of the island of Minorca. A journey through the streets of its historic quarter, declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument, will bring you closer to the noble and religious history of this city.
The earliest reference to settlements in this area dates back to the arrival of the Carthaginians, who populated the island. Later on, in the 13th century, it was reconquered by Alfonso the Liberal. It took a year for it to be rebuilt and when it was complete a wall was erected to protect the city. Within it, numerous palaces were built. Ciutadella lost the status of capital of Minorca with the British Invasion of 1722, although the bishopric remained there as the maximum ecclesiastical authority. In the 19th century, the wall was demolished and new districts were built farther away from the historic quarter, marking the beginning of the boom in the jewellery and shoemaking industries.
Ciutadella's port is a very interesting place to visit as well. Along its coastline you will find beautiful coves like Forcat, Blanes, Santabria, Blanca, etc.

The Almerimar golf course is the oldest course in the province of Almería. The course was designed by Rob Kirby and Gary Player, and consists of 18 holes with a par of 72, and features wide fairways flanked by leafy trees, which not only provide pleasant shade in summer but also make it considerably more difficult to reach the flag.
