Las Palmas Sebadal -- Turism
With a total area of 269 square kilometres, El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands. In its tiny territory is a wide variety of ecosystems and landscapes. This fact, along with the implementation of a sustainable development program, led to the declaration of the island as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in the year 2000.
El Hierro is located in the westernmost end of the archipelago of the Canary Islands. With the passage of time, this volcanic island became a place with a very diverse scenery: from the fertile farmlands of El Golfo and steep coastal cliffs in the north, to the incredible geological formations of lava and cones in the south, not forgetting the luxuriant vegetation that dominates the centre of the island. The island exhibits a tremendous biodiversity. On the higher areas we find laurisilva forests, a veritable relic from the Tertiary Period. Holm oak and beech dominate El Fayal, while luxuriant forests of Canary Island pine are also abundant, as well as Phoenician juniper, which lives in the western part of the island.
Valverde, capital of the island of El Hierro, is a quiet city surrounded by beautiful natural spaces.
Valverde sits on a mountain situated 600-700 metres above sea level. Curiously, it is the only Canary Islands capital not to be on the coast.
This town is formed by a network of steep little streets, whitewashed houses and large gardens. Three neighbourhoods form the capital: Tesine, La Calle and El Cabo. The church of Santa María de la Concepción, built in the 18th century, is the most important in the city. As well as an 18th-century carving of the Virgin, it contains a Cristo de la Columna, a Genoese sculpture of great artistic interest. Facing the church is the city hall, a fine example of traditional Canary Islands architecture.
The capital of El Hierro is the gateway to the lush countryside around it. Monacal, in the northern part of the island, has abundant vegetation and two natural swimming pools on the coast. Next to the them, you can admire Pozo de las Calcosas, an old settlement formed by stone houses with straw rooves. One of the most important festivals on the island is the Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes. In this traditional festival, which is held every four years, the islanders carry their Virgin from her sanctuary to Valverde.

Golfclub Guadalmina Urbanización Guadalmina Alta, s/n 29678 San Pedro de Alcántara (Málaga) Tel. +34 952883375 / Fax: +34 952883483
holes: 18 par: 72
The Club de Golf Guadalmina consists of two different courses: Guadalmina Sur (south course) and Guadalmina Norte (north course). Guadalmina Sur is the oldest course. It was opened in 1959 and was designed by Javier Arana. It is renowned for being an extremely tough course, so it is only really recommended for expert players. There are few water or earth hazards but the vegetation is abundant and it's very easy to lose the ball. The Guadalmina Norte course was opened in 1973 and runs parallel to the south course. It is easier but it contains more water hazards and the terrain is more hilly with several slopes. The Club de Golf de Guadalmina is only a few minutes from the town of San Pedro de Alcántara, between Marbella and Sotogrande.
